Theatre Broadcast from la Comédie-Française
For its first season of cinema broadcasts, France’s historical theatre stage la Comédie-Française shows Romeo and Juliet. Based on the translation of Victor Hugo’s son, François-Victor Hugo, this take on the play remains as faithful as possible to Shakespeare’s masterpiece, rendering its original darkness and complexity. “There is a black sun in this story, and this is what we ought to look into”, says stage director Eric Ruf.
