Turkish Music Concert: Şifanağme

Turkish Music Concert: Şifanağme

In a concert conducted by Ahmet Hakkı TURABİ, songs from different Turkish maqams will be performed based on health and the human body. It features Ahmet Hakkı Turabi (Conductor, Kanun), Erhan Özden (Ney), Hikmet Toker (Tanbur), Cemal Karabaşoğlu (Ritm), and Mehmet Ünal (Rebab).

The Şifanağme takes its name from the şifalı nağmeler, curative melodies which have been used for therapy for centuries in Anatolia. Music is an entirely spiritual art directly affecting souls as well as liquids of the human body: Kan (red: related with the heart), balgam (sputum: linked with the head), Safra (yellow: related with the immune system), and sevda (dark black: associated with the lungs). The frequencies of each maqam evoke the movement of the different liquids which vary in density. According to some information obtained from old manuscripts, the deformation of structures of these liquids causes many diseases. Therefore, the curing of these liquids cures the body at the same time. The Turkish maqams have a different composition of 24 various and compatible sounds that are taken from nature. The use of these maqams in music-therapy is absolutely scientific and based on experience. These maqams have existed since the very beginning of time.
