Susana Medina, Paul Louis Archer: Object Lessons

Susana Medina, Paul Louis Archer: Object Lessons

Screening, reading and discussion: an evening of objects, literature and gorgeous photography.

‘Susana Medina: Object Lessons,’ an audio-visual story by photographer Paul Louis Archer in collaboration with the author, has the power of objects at its core, the main theme of Medina’s critically acclaimed book, Philosophical Toys, and a subject Archer has skilfully explored in his visual work. After a reading and a screening, the photographer and writer will discuss their creative process as well as the collaboration which led to this memorable multi-media story, recently published in El País in English.

Susana Medina is the author of Philosophical Toys (Dalkey Archive Press), offspring of which are the short films Buñuel’s Philosophical Toys and Leather-bound Stories. Other relevant books are Red Tales – Cuentos rojos (bilingual edition, co-translated with Rosie Marteau) and Souvenirs del Accidente. She has been awarded The Max Aub Short Story International Prize, as well as a Writing Grant from the Arts Council of England for her novel Spinning Days of Night.

Born in Hertfordshire of an English father and Spanish mother, Paul Louis Archer is a photojournalist, who creates multimedia content. A regular contributor to El País newspaper, he is a cross-disciplinary worker who endeavours to encompass the mediums of photography, audio design and writing. Major awards include The Thomas Struth Photography Competition held by The Whitechapel Gallery.
