Seven Works for Mercy

7 Opere PER la Misericordia is a unique project about solidarity and art and involves 33 international artists. Inspired by The Seven Acts of Mercy the artists kindly and generously donated their art works to the Pio Monte della Misericordia.

The Pio Monte della Misericordia is a charitable institution funded in 1602 with the aim to provide assistance, support and solidarity to the poor. Caravaggio was commissioned an art work, resulting in the stunning, inspiring and touching painting The Seven Acts of Mercy, currently on display on Pio Monte della Misericordia’ church’s altar (Chiesa Maggiore).

At its fifth edition “7 Opere PER la Misericordia” aim is to re-establish a long lost connection between art and solidarity, an ancient collaboration between the charitable Pio Monte della Misericordia e contemporary art, such as the one built the its founders and Caravaggio.

The artists, with their own technique and style, become protagonist of a charity project, in a brave challenge of generosity aimed at funding scholarships and grants for deserving, low income students of the Naples Academy of Fine Arts.

The Italian Cultural Institute has the honour to host the exhibition of the 33 artworks: 28 created for previous editions, as well as 5 new ones, never shown before, featuring in the 2017 edition.

Among the artists: Marisa Albanese, Maria Thereza Alves, Carlos Alberto de Arauio, Antonio Biasiucci, Antonio Salvino De Campos, Roberto Caracciolo, Sandro Chia, Francesco Clemente, Ross Clifford, Flavio Colusso, Piero Golia, Douglas Gordon, Candida Höfer, Rachel Howard, Mimmo Jodice, Anish Kapoor, Joseph Kosuth, Jannis Kounellis, Henrietta Labouchere, Mariangela Levita, Olaf Nicolai, Mimmo Paladino, Giulia Piscitelli, Lorenzo Scotto di Luzio, Charles Skapin, Grazia Toderi, Nasan Tur, Franz West e Gilberto Zorio.
