Jacques Demy’s ode to the classic fairy tale by Charles Perrault stars Catherine Deneuve, as a princess who must go into hiding as a scullery maid in order to fend off an unwanted marriage proposal—from her own father, the king (Jean Marais). This epic tale overflows with dazzling colour, elaborate costumes, an enchanting score by Academy Award winning composer Michel Legrand and features Delphine Seyrig as a fashionable fairy godmother.
