As part of the Martin Musical Scholarship Fund (MMSF) Recitals series, the prize-winning cellist Margarita Balanas will perform works by Ligeti and Rachmaninov at the Royal Festival Hall. Ligeti’s sonata for solo cello, an unaccompanied affair, reflects the composer’s passionate, Eastern European influences, while Rachmaninov’s sonata sees cellist and pianist united with equally challenging and intense musical parts.
