LSFF 2018: Ngozi Onwurah: Short films + Panel Discussion

This screening is followed by a panel discussion with Ngozi Onwurah, producer Simon Onwurah, Hilja Lindsay-Muwonge (actress, Flight of the Swan) and Sian Ejiwumi-Le Berre (actress, The Body Beautiful)

Pioneer of Black British cinema Ngozi Onwurah’s body of work weaves autobiographical narrative with astute socio-political observation. The first Black British woman filmmaker to have a feature film released in UK cinemas, this is a celebration of Ngozi’s legacy, with a screening of rare works followed by a panel discussion.

Programme

  • The Body Beautiful, 1991, 23 mins. A moving, autobiographical account of the mother-daughter relationship, and the female body within traditional beauty standards.
  • Coffee Coloured Children, 1988, 15 mins. A visceral look at growing up mixed-race in 1980s England.
  • Flight Of The Swan, 1992, 12 mins. A young black girl dreams of performing as a lead ballerina.
