Low Countries Film Festival

The Low Country Film Festival is back for its second edition! The festival will take place in Dutch Centre from 27 September – 30 September. Expect a great selection of the best Dutch and Flemish movies, Q&A’s with filmmakers and much more.

THE PROGRAMME

Tuesday 27 September: Opening Film & Drinks

Low Countries Film Festival will kick off with Public Works (Publieke Werken), which is based on the bestseller by Thomas Rosenboom.
Film Director Joram Lürsen (alsno known from Alles is Liefde), will be present at the opening for a Q&A.
About the film: In 1888 Amsterdam, a stubborn violin maker and his pharmacist cousin face hardship and tragedy as they oppose the powerful businessmen who plan to force him from his house and erect a luxurious new hotel in its place.
There will be (free!) drinks afterwards.

Wednesday 28 September: Flemish Night
On Wednesday we will show two great Flemish films.

6.30pm: Moscow, Belgium (Comedy) by Christophe van Rompaey

Matty, a 41-year old mother of three with a husband in his midlife-crisis, meets 29-year old Johnny, a truck driver, who takes an interest in her.

9pm: Belgica (Drama) by Felix van Groeningen

The drama follows two brothers who start a bar and get swept up in its success in the midst of Belgium’s nightlife scene.

Thursday 29 September: Dutch Comedy Night

Thursday will be a typical Dutch Night. We will screen the romantic comedy Mannenharten by Mark de Cloe. Mannenharten follows the love lives of different types of men in Amsterdam, starring Daan Schuurmans, Barry Atsma and many others.
Please note: This film is in Dutch and does not have subtitles.

Friday 30 September: Documentary Night

The festival ends with the very intriguing documentary  “A Strange Love Affair”. Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, is social media turning us into narcissists? Admiration for her sister Rowan’s self-confidence leads filmmaker Ester Gould on a personal exploration of our narcissistic culture, with disconcerting results. A remarkable journey past four life stages and the fundamental need to be seen. This award winning documentary was called the best Dutch Film on IDFA and was nominated for the The Dutch Gouden Kalf Award.
