Set in Paris in 1942, Truffaut’s stirring tribute to the Resistance and to theatre is Deneuve’s first pairing with Gérard Depardieu. Marion takes over the theatre managed by her German-Jewish husband after he goes into hiding. She hires Bernard (Depardieu) as the star of her new production, and as rehearsals proceed, an attraction grows between them.
