Isabelle Huppert Retrospective

Isabelle Huppert Retrospective

As Isabelle Huppert hits the stage of the Barbican Centre in Phaedra (9-18 June), we saw fit to dedicate a retrospective of her most iconic films throughout May and June.

She first won our hearts by losing hers in Claude Goretta’s 1977 film The Lace-Maker. It was, so to speak, love At First Sight, as in Diane Kurys 1983 nostalgic piece. Since then she has displayed on stage as much as in front of the camera an astonishing range of strong and fierce rebels or lonely-hearts, always challenging parts, never a dull performance. A muse to Claude Chabrol and Michael Haneke, she has inspired some of the finest and most demanding directors from Jean-Luc Godard and Maurice Pialat to Andrzej Wajda and Hong Sang-soo, in an international, multi-awarded and incredibly prolific career.
