In Short, Europe: Happy Together – Live panel discussion MAGIC

Live panel discussion with the directors of the films included in the strand MAGIC of In Short, Europe: Happy Together (7-16 May)on what inspires them and their drive to use film as a medium to explore the idea of accessing a more spiritual world.

The discussion will be moderated by Isra Al Kassi , former Events Coordinator and Marketing Manager at Ritzy Picturehouse and currently co-founder of T A P E Collective; a film collective championing a more inclusive industry and launched as a response to the lack of representation on screen.

About the directors:

Jonatan Etzler is a Swedish director and screenwriter born in 1988, known for Riktigt mycket pengar – en film om lycka (2013), Get Ready With Me (2019) and Swimmer (2020).

Hannes Lang is an Italian filmmaker based in Cologne, Germany, where he studied at the Academy of Media Arts focusing on the field of artistic documentary filmmaking. His feature-length documentaries PEAK and I WANT TO SEE THE MANAGER were invited to festivals worldwide and won numerous awards.

Bonnie Dempsey is a director, producer and documentary cameraperson. A graduate of National Film School I.A.D.T. she is one half of Dyehouse Films who specialise in making films, documentaries and television programmes for young audiences. Her short films, All in Good Time(2018), The Girl at the End of the Garden(2019) and Tina Times Two(2020) have resonated with audiences across the globe.

Carlos Ruano was born in Alicante. His love of films made him move to Madrid to study a Screenplay Writing Postgradute Degree. After graduating, he started working as a screenwriter on some of the most notorious Spanish Tv Shows such as Física o Química, Vive Cantando or Cuéntame un Cuento.In 2006 he made the leap into film direction and film production with Dulces, a short movie which represents his first attempt to deal with the LGTBI issue, a recurring theme in later works. Later, with the help of Zampano Producciones, he directed Turno de Noche, a short film that has been selected in more than thirty international film festivals.PISCINA is his third short film as director, producer and screenwriter.

Lia Bertels (Belgium, 1987) is a filmmaker, animator, and illustrator. She has directed music videos and animated several documentaries. Sweet Night is her second animated short as a director.

Bogdan Mureşanu is a Romanian award-winning director, screenwriter and producer. He produced and directed his first short film in 2012, based on his own script, “Half Shaved”. It won the Audience Award at “Anonimul” IFF Sf. Gheorghe (Romania) and was shown in festivals in Montreal, Cinequest, Cleveland, Reykjavik, York, Oaxaca, Maremetraggio, Lille, Reggio. In 2016, Bogdan finished his next short called “Spid”. Same year, a short art film “Negruzzi 14” was showcased at the National Museum of Contemporary Art in Bucharest. In 2018, the short animation called “The Magician” was undergoing pre-production, while the short fiction “The Christmas Gift” was travelling the world winning no less than ten awards in less than six months, such as Best Short Film Award at the European Academy Film Awards as well as the Grand Prix at Clermont-Ferrand FF (2019) and many others.

The event will take place online on Zoom.

Organised as part of the In Short, Europe: Happy Together short film festival of EUNIC London in partnership with the Delegation of the European Union to the UK.
