The Embassy of Nicaragua, Instituto Cervantes and Canning House invite you to an event to mark the centenary of Rubén Darío’s death (1867-1916).
Rubén Darío was a Nicaraguan poet who initiated the Spanish-American literary movement known as modernismo that flourished at the end of the 19th century. Darío has had a great and lasting influence on 20th-century Spanish literature and journalism.
The talk will be delivered by Ian Gibson, author and hispanist known for his biographies of Antonio Machado, Salvador Dalí and particularly his work on Federico García Lorca, for which he won several awards. His novel Yo, Rubén Darío. Memorias póstumas de un Rey de la Poesía (2002) forms one of the most faithful and beautiful tributes to Darío, who narrates from the hereafter the truth of his tormented and fascinating life.
