This exhibition focuses on Turkish Calligraphy and includes forty works from the collection of the Albaraka Turk Participation Bank in Istanbul.
While calligraphy is an independent art on its own, its beauty is dressed by the art of illumination. Born centuries ago in Central Asia, the Islamic art of manuscript illumination developed through the stylization into abstract motifs of plant and animal forms. These are painted with gold ink and various pigments, thus they acquired superb colors. The illumination on twenty-four of the works on exhibit are by young artists of the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries.
