As part of the celebrations on Día E, on June 18th, the Cervantes Institute will host the launch of Piano A Cuatro Manos, by Conxa Rodriguez Vives and presented in conversation with writer and journalist Elena Moya.
The historical novel is based on the life of General Ramon Cabrera Count of Morella, who, between 1850 and 1865, lived at an address near the Cervantes Institute’s 102 Eaton Square centre (81 Eaton Square, to be precise). Exiled during the Spanish Civil War (1833-1840), he came to be known as the Tiger of the Maestrazgo thereafter.
The novel combines historically accurate personalities and events with imaginary, fictional passages. It traces a journey from Tortosa to Morella to Madrid, through Andalusia and Navarra. The past, a heavy burden on Ramon Cabrera, takes centre stage in his life whilst the transition from carlism to liberalism, will surprise readers.
Author Conxa Rodriguez Vives (Morella, 1958) graduated in Information Sciences at the Universidad Autonoma in Barcelona. She went on to forge a career in national mainstream media such as El Pais. She has since been the London correspondent for Avui, Publico and several radio stations. Conxa has authored Ramon Cabrera, The Exile; The Giner Factory in Morella; The Thyssen Family, For The Love Of Art and Picasso’s Angel. Currently, she is a contributor to El Mundo and Unidad Editorial.
The launch will be hosted by journalist Elena Moya (Tarragona, 1970) who took up residence in London as a financial journalist 15 years ago and first worked for Bloomberg and Reuters, and later for The Guardian. She has authored Belchite Olive Trees and The Republican Teacher.
The book launch is free to attend but registration is necessary.
