Book Presentation with the authors Raymond Calcraft and Elizabeth Matthews and distinguished guests: Countess Cecilia Rodrigo, actor Gabriel Woolf, guitarist Pepe Romero, soprano Catherine Hamilton and violinist Agustín León Ara.
Joaquín Rodrigo was the outstanding Spanish composer of the second half of the 20th century. Blind from the age of three, he created one of the best-loved of all pieces of classical music, the Concierto de Aranjuez, for guitar and orchestra, in addition to some 170 other extraordinary compositions. Rodrigo’s wide-ranging knowledge of both his own country’s music and culture and the great composers of European classical music is revealed here in styles ranging from the humorous to the poetic, the analytical to the profound. Joaquín Rodrigo Voice and Vision contains translations by Raymond Calcraft and Elizabeth Matthews of many of the composer’s most important writings on music, which appear here in English for the first time.
