‘Wolf Moon’: the Spanish Civil War as inspiration

Instituto Cervantes presents a talk by author Julio Llamazares on the creation of his book, “Wolf Moon”. Llamazares will be in conversation with Dr. Gareth Wood from UCL on the Spanish Civil war and resistance as literary inspiration.

Julio Llamazares is a renowned poet, novelist, essayist and Spanish journalist. Luna de Lobos (1985) was his first novel, in which he recounts the lives of four Republican fugitives who have taken refuge from the implacable persecution of the troops of Franco in the remote Cantabrian Mountains. The book is a poetic testament of courage and resistance against the oppressor and was the first novel to break the so-called “Pact of Forgetting” that accompanied the political transition from the dictatorship to the constitutional regime after Franco’s death in 1975.
