Three historians discuss the impact of the dual battle of Verdun–Somme. Prof. William Philpott (King’s College London) will explain the objectives and methods of these intertwined and prolonged attritional battles, Dr. Emmanuelle Cronier (Univ. de Picardie) will examine how they were not only fought in frontline but had a great impact on societies at the rear, while (Cambridge) will reflect on how these battles have been remembered over the last century.
