The Forty Thieves is a work-in-progress comic book by Portuguese artist Francisco Sousa Lobo . It features interviews with artists and critics in the fields of fine arts and comics. The comic book will focus on the influence – what it is and how it operates.
The exhibition will mark the halfway point of the process. Interviews include Chester Brown, Michael Landy, Seth, Hugo Canoilas, Adam Chodzko, Marco Mendes, Amanda Baeza, Alice Geirinhas and many others.
The exhibiton will include original drawings, video excerpts of interviews and reproductions of objects precious to each interviewee.
Francisco Sousa Lobo works in fine art and comics, and has a background in architecture. As a comics author he has been published in the UK, Spain, Italy and Portugal. As a fine art practitioner he has exhibited widely in Europe, from Museu do Chiado, Lisbon to the New Art Gallery in Walsall and the Royal Academy of Arts in London. His printmaking work is present in several public and private collections. He is a PhD in Art at Goldsmiths, London and previously studied Printmaking at MA Level at the Royal College of Art in London, with a Gulbenkian Foundation scholarship.
The Forty Thieves will be at the 12 Star Gallery, Europe House, from 22 June to 1 July.
