There isn’t Milk for the Tea is the new show of the Spanish born and London based artist Cristina BanBan feauturing recent paintings presenting a mix of themes that are based on the humility and tradition of Spanish culture, contrasted with the imaginary and real experiences of her newfound home.
“A lot of what is depicted in my recent work are things that I took for granted where I grew up. But when you leave, these memories remain, but they form different places in your mind.”
The work exists as a combination of vibrant colours and personal symbols, adressing both memories and the present. Part of a generation of young people that migrated from their homeland, the artist is fascinated by the eclectic nature of London, with its jumble of cultures and flux.
