The Embassy of Ireland in London will host a programme of events from October through to December 2021 marking the centenary of the negotiation and signing of the Anglo-Irish Treaty of 1921.
Beginning with a formal launch on the 7th of October, the Embassy will host an exhibition of paintings by the renowned Irish portrait artist Sir John Lavery, on loan to the Embassy from Ireland’s Hugh Lane Gallery, National Gallery of Ireland and Áras an Uachtaráin. The 14 portraits include some of the major Irish and British political figures who were involved in the negotiations, such as Michael Collins, Winston Churchill, Arthur Griffith, David Lloyd George, as well as other important figures from the time such as Eamon De Valera and Lady Lavery. Tours of the exhibition along with related talks will run throughout the month until the 7th of November.
