Join us at Europe House for a storytelling performance that dramatises the challenges and ethical dilemmas faced by interpreters working with people in sensitive situations.
Between weaves together stories of migration, multilingualism, agency, empathy, identity, loss and renewal. The performance will draw on real experiences of interpreters working with Mothertongue, a multi-ethnic counselling and interpreting service that operated until 2018, led by Dr Beverley Costa of Birkbeck, University of London.
Performance company Around the Well will consider the issue of exclusion – when some people do, and some people do not, understand what is being said – and its relevance to the current debate about insider and outsider status, both within Europe and beyond.
The performance will last approximately one hour and will be followed by a Q&A session with the company and a discussion of the issues raised by the stories.
The event is open to all and free of charge, but capacity is restricted and registration is essential at this page.
