Adapted from a historical novel by Yves Dangerfield, Patricia Mazuy’s film’Saint-Cyr’ is a modern take on an eternal drama. It tells the story of Madame de Maintenon, the secret wife of Louis XIV, who runs a pious but liberal boarding school for young girls. In an attempt to expiate her past, Madame de Maintenon plunges into religion and soon imposes stricter rules.
