Pražák Quartet

Celebrating the centenary of the founding of Czechoslovakia in 1918 the concert by the Pražák Quartet, the leading Czech international chamber music ensemble, features music by the father of Czech music, Bedřich Smetana, the “American” Quartet, one of the most popular pieces in the chamber music repertoire, by Antonín Dvořák and a quartet composed by his son-in-law Josef Suk. The Pražák Quartet under their new leader, Jana Vonášková, offers stellar interpretations of three late Romantic pieces in a spirited tribute to the legacy of Czechoslovakia and its rich musical tradition while launching its brand new CD Bedřich Smetana: String Quartets; Piano Trio Op.15

The Pražák Quartet is one of today’s leading international chamber music ensembles and winner of multiple awards including the first prize at the Evian String Quartet Competition and a special prize awarded by Radio France. It has been at home on music stages worldwide for more than 30 years participating in numerous international festivals and has collaborated with such artists as Menahem Pressler, Jon Nakamatsu, Cynthia Phelps, Roberto Diaz, Josef Suk, and Sharon Kam. In 2015 the Pražák Quartet opened a new chapter in its career by welcoming as leader the excellent violinist, Jana Vonášková, a graduate of the Royal College of Music in London and a former member of the Smetana Trio. The spirit, freshness and agility of youth combine with the extensive experience of the ensemble’s founder members to produce a renewed sound and energy and a sense of unity and togetherness that is truly remarkable.
