Ona Juciūtė, Mark Buckeridge Reciprocal Residency Solo Exhibitions

We are delighted to invite you to the launch of Joiners by Ona Juciūtė (LT) and 4 Ballads by Mark Buckeridge (NI/RoI), our 2022 DeMo residents. This is the second iteration of our residency programme and partnership with CCA Derry Londonderry and Kaunas Artists’ House. Entitled DeMo, this biennial programme supports emerging artists to participate in an exchange between Northern Ireland and Lithuania. The solo shows are comprised of new work made during the residency inspired by personal narratives and the practice of textile making of our region (Ona Juciūtė) and sean nós singing and community found in music making (Mark Buckeridge).

Lithuanian artist Ona Juciūtė is interested in the practices and shifts of making today. She works across sculpture, installation and moving images. With a set of sculptures made specifically for this show, she is exploring parallels between tailoring, clothing and furniture making. The video piece Joiners connects patchwork making practices of former Factory Girls from Derry and a story of Ona’s father – a carpenter – and his relationship with the changing world through his skill. The DeMo reciprocal residency programme is a partnership between CCA Derry~Londonderry, Lithuanian Culture Institute and Kaunas Artists’ House.
