The ‘Nocilla Trilogy’ has been catalogued as one of the most daring experiments in Spanish literature of recent years. Full of references to indie cinema, collage, conceptual art, practical architecture, the history of computers and the decadence of the novel, these books present us with a hidden and exhilarating cartography of contemporary experience. His author, Agustín Fernández, will make a rare London appearance at Burley Fisher Books in conversation with novelist Stuart Evers.
Agustín Fernández Mallo is a Spanish physicist and writer who has been collaborating with various cultural publications in order to highlight the connection between art and science. His Nocilla Trilogy, published between 2006 and 2009, brought about an important shift in contemporary Spanish writing and paved the way for the birth of a new generation of authors, known as the ‘Nocilla Generation’. Nocilla Dream and Nocilla Experience, the first two volumes in the Nocilla Trilogy, are published by Fitzcarraldo Editions in Thomas Bunstead’s translations; the final book, Nocilla Lab, will appear in 2018.
Stuart Evers’ first book, Ten Stories About Smoking, won the London Book Award in 2011, and his highly acclaimed novel, If This is Home, followed in 2012. His latest collection, Your Father Sends His Love, was shortlisted for the 2016 Edge Hill Short Story Prize and has been praised by writers as diverse as Teju Cole, Jenny Offill, Ian Rankin and Eimear McBride. His work has appeared in three Best of British stories anthologies, Prospect and has been read on Radio 4. He regularly reviews fiction for the The Guardian, The Observer, The Daily Telegraph and The Spectator.
