A Franco-British Correspondence 1944-1946
Between 1944 and 1946, Francis Usai, a young French pilot based near York, wrote to Barbara Rigby, a student living in Liverpool. She recorded their conversations in her diary and kept the letters. Ian Reed (director, Yorkshire Air Museum), Geneviève Monneris (documentary maker) and historians Mona Parra (Université de Grenoble Alpes) and Claire Gorrara (Cardiff University) explore how this love story makes us see the War through the more intimate lens of the romance, while actors make us hear their voices through readings from the letters and diaries.
Special event marking the 75th anniversary of the Normandy landings. As part of The Borders of Identity seminar series.
