Works by Czech artist Karel Štědrý will be presented at this year’s START art fair at the Saatchi Gallery by the BALART Gallery. Štědrý is a painter and co-founder of the art group OBR, whose early work was influenced by spray-painted street-art and the texture and vivid colours of children’s modelling clay. The display will include his DeepHouse black and white collection which is amongst his most recent work.
Karel Štědrý has tried to express through his works the ability to combine geometrical sobriety with artisanal playfulness and a respect for the past with a willingness to dissect all familiar forms into their prime elements, which he then combines into a new order. Against this seemingly destructive force, he tries to place the energy of creativity. The results are striking paintings with new meaning and content.
BALART is active as a freelance agency, dealing with the management of contemporary painters and the organisation of exhibitions both locally and abroad. Established in 2017 and owned by art consultant Rita Balla, its mission is to create opportunities for Central European artists – mostly Hungarian, Slovak and Czech, to become active participants in the English art scene, and to promote communication between the English and Middle European arts sectors.
START returns to London’s Saatchi Gallery this September, showcasing emerging artists from new art scenes to give art collectors and enthusiasts alike the opportunity to discover artwork from developing global markets. Founded and organised by Parallel Contemporary Art and Saatchi Gallery, START takes place across all three floors of Saatchi Gallery. It aims to introduce a young generation of galleries and artists to an international audience and provide an insight into the future of contemporary art.
Please note that on Sundays the show closes at 5pm.
