Brady Lecture 2018 with Professor Brendan Simms

“Germany and England in the Age of Schism”

For the annual Brady Lecture, the Goethe-Institut London invites outstanding personalities who have made special contributions to cultural exchange between Great Britain and Germany. We are delighted that historian Brendan Simms will be our speaker for this year’s lecture.

Brendan Simms is Professor of History of International Relations at the University of Cambridge. In his research, Brendan Simms focuses on German history in a European context. He has written several books, including his recently published work “Britain’s Europe: A Thousand Years of Conflict and Cooperation“ (Penguin, 2017). Brendan Simms is Chairman of the Project for Democratic Union.

In his lecture “Germany and England in the Age of Schism”, Brendan Simms will discuss Germany and England in the age of Putin, Trump and Brexit. The talk will be followed by a Q&A.

We welcome all ticket holders to join us for a reception after the lecture.

Brady Lecture
Held every year, the Goethe-Institut London’s Brady Lecture commemorates the achievements of broadcaster and lecturer Philip Brady (1932-1997). Past speakers include for instance Anne McElvoy (2017), Neil MacGregor (2016), Christopher Clark (2014), David Chipperfield (2012), Norman Rosenthal (2010), Tacita Dean (2006), Peter Jonas (2005), Ian Kershaw (2003), Richard Wentworth (2002), AS Byatt (2001).
