Works by Jo Stockham
This exhibition includes a range of prints produced in different ways but with recurring themes of language, nature, and the city. ‘Ampersand’ is a new work, made for the 12 Star Gallery, which gathers together images from trips made across Europe over 35 years, and which have often been initiated by artist exchanges and teaching. ‘Ampersand’ is about creating links and bringing together differences, and putting disparate elements in conversation with each other.
The structure of the work is based on the printed endless landscapes or myriorama that were a popular entertainment for children and produced throughout Europe in the 19th century. These consist of small panels printed on card which can be endlessly reshuffled to create different panoramic landscapes. The work aims to bring together small items, souvenirs, previous works and references with images of the outside world, bridging personal and political narratives.
